The Arrington Ranch is a working cow calf operation located 1 hour and 45 minutes northeast of Amarillo on HWY 60. Just recently the Lodge was used as one of the locations for the Tom Hanks movie "Cast Away".
The area is filled with historical sites. A small town, Miami is located 12 miles west of the Lodge has a museum filled with local history and artifacts. There is a mammoth tusk there that was found on the Arrington Ranch by George Arrington.
South of the Lodge at Old Mobeetie where Capt. Arrington was sheriff over 14 counties, they have now made the jail a museum. Capt. Arrington and his wife Sarah lived in the top of the jail where two of their children where born.
Canadian, the only town in Hemphill County, has lots to offer its visitors. There are several restaurants that offer a wide variety of wonderful and unique foods. Additionally you can find different apparel shops that not only offer ladies, men, and children clothing but a selection of great gift ideas for any occasion.
On the North end of town the original bridge built in 1916 crossing the Canadian River has been made into a walking bridge. The town museum is filled with detailed local history of the county and surrounding area, including historical artifacts that have been recovered from the area. On Main Street you can enjoy movie at The Palace Movie Theater, which has a THX sound system. Continue up the street to the Soda Shop and treat yourself to a soda pop, milk shake, or malt.
The Lodge is a great retreat place you can sit and do very little and absorb the beautiful countryside and listen to nature. You can make your stay a quite and peaceful as you want or full and lively.
